With the approach of my son’s birthday I sat in in the
living room and stared at the overflowing toy chest, wondering what I could
possibly find for him that he didn’t already have in some form or another.
There were a number of toys that fostered learning the alphabet and
multiplication tables, shelves of books that encouraged him to learn to read.
There were educational toys and toys for fun, balls of various sizes for a
number of purposes. It left me dumbfounded.
As a parent, there is pressure to find that perfect gift
that stands out from the others, something that shows you know your child
better than anyone else and that you have a strong desire to cater to their
tastes. As grandparents, you want to spoil your grandchildren with anything you
can afford to give.
So what do you get for the kid that has everything? It’s not
as hard as you think to find great personalized birthday gifts that everyone
loves. Whether shopping for a first birthday or a 10th, wonderful, unique gifts
are out there, waiting to be carved to perfection for your son or daughter.
For Boys
• · What boy doesn’t
love superheroes? Consider getting him a personalized shirt with his favorite
superhero on it, or their favorite Marvel hero on a pillowcase customized with
his name on it. Don’t just go to the store and buy regular stock items. Get him
something that gives him the feeling of pride of ownership.
• · For the sports
fan, you might want to consider pillows shaped like his favorite sports ball or
a baseball jersey with his name on it. If he plays little league sports get him
a customized sports bag with his name on the front.
For Girls
• · Most little girls
enjoy having tea with mom and dad or with her toys. Getting her a tea set with
her name on it brings a new level of fun to the tea-time experience.
• · If your little
girl enjoys playing dress up, consider investing in a vanity with her name on
it. It even has a drawer for her jewelry storage. Complete the vanity with
personalized hairbrush and comb.
There are a number of unisex gift ideas too like personal
step stools with storage space, backpacks with names and designs, puzzle
stools, and a number of other wonderful gift ideas.
These suggestions are just the beginning. Check out some
online stores for gift ideas that everyone loves and you can’t go wrong. Let
other family members buy the toys while you make things a little more personal
with creative and fun gift ideas you know your child will love. My son was
thrilled when he came home on his birthday to find a customized Spiderman
comforter and pillow on his bed.
Your child’s birthday doesn’t have to be a stress on your
budget or your psyche. Find reasonable ways to cope with birthday stress and
don’t let the pressure of buying the perfect gift turn your hair gray, unless
it’s already gray, in which case you might want to even it out. Make the gift
practical not just on your pocketbook, but by getting a gift that will last for
years to come. The idea is to make the day fun not just for your child, but for
you as well.
